It’s August and though fall is on the horizon this is the hottest month of the year; if you’re natural like me than you know the struggle the humidity can have on your hair. I have quite honestly given up on rocking my ‘fro as I’m not partial to truly looking like Frederick Douglas. Instead, I’ve opted to wear protective styling in the form of a weave with a tiny bit of leave out in the front. Leave out aside, my edges are what really seem to forsake me in this August heat. I will leave the sanctity of my bathroom with edges that are laid and well-behaved only to step into the elements to have my edges yell girl bye. As a result I have diligently been on the hunt for products that will truly tame my edges.
I feel truly blessed to have a circle of friends who are experts in hair care so I asked them for a bit of advice and recommendations on their favorite products:
India and Mica of I McCleod Salon both recommend Influance Glazed edges and indicated its good for both relaxed and natural clients. According to India, some of the benefits include that it doesn’t turn white (as some edge control products do) and tends to last a little longer.
Influence Glazed Edges retails for $17.00
Cataanda J recommends Hicks Transformation edges and simply put, called it a miracle worker.
Hicks Transformations can be found at Walmart and retails for $12.99
I personally have had a fair amount of success with Carols Daughter Black Vanilla and edge smoother. There is very little residue and flakiness which can be characteristic of other products. It also does a great job of keeping my edges smooth even in the August heat. Edge control can be a blessing and a curse. Even some of the best products can build up with too much use, so it will be critical to ensure you are shampooing the product out followed by a good conditioner.
Please make sure you follow my favorite stylist to keep up to date on all things beauty
