Red Carter Resort 2013- Recap

This Swim Week, Miami’s Native Son- Red Carter returned to the catwalk to present his latest Resort 2013 collection. From the moment the first model sauntered down the runway carrying a disco-ball and rocking hair that was very much an ode to the iconic Vidal Sassoon bob, attendees were guaranteed to be in for a treat.  The collection combined disco influences with a distinct nod to the golden era of the infamous Studio 54 in NYC;  combining  glitz, glamour and a combination of animal prints and Aztec influences.

The final pieces were accompanied by models that were wearing feathers, which looked like a nod to Moulin Rouge or the beautiful girls who dress in pageantry for Caribbean Carnival festivals. Needless to say, Red Carter is making an indelible mark in the fashion industry with his modern touches and  heavy couture influences and I am certain his influence and reach will extend even further with his recent relocation to NYC.

Mara Hoffman Swim 2013

Mara Hoffman’s presentation for any fashion week  is always highly anticipated and Miami Swim is no exception.  She always presents a collection  that’s  both unique and undoubtedly trend setting.  Last years collection set one of the most popular hair trends of the current season, which was the fishtail braid.

This year, the collection featured wildly –teased hair with center parts. A western theme was prevalent complete with ankle-length cowboy boots, huge statement necklaces and of course the collection featured her standard bohemian chic look.

Aqua di Lara- Swimwear Collection 2013

Aqua di Lara was hands down one of my favorite shows of Miami Swim.  Swarovski crystal embellishments, gorgeous printed caftans and a great mix of mono-kini’s, string bikinis and high waited suits rounded out the collection.    The cover-ups were so well designed that they could have easily made a transition from day to evening and the swimwear offered up a variety of looks that would compliment most body types.

Created by award-winning designer Reyhan Sofraci,  Aqua di Lara strives to create forms that accentuate the feminine form and the 2013 collection is equal parts glamour and high fashion.

Prepping for Miami Swim Week 2013

I am prepping for one of my favorite annual jaunts to Miami for the upcoming Mercedes Benz Swim Week. As I contemplate my wardrobe for the trip my thoughts inevitably, once again turn to being a curvy girl in a very tiny world, especially as it relates to fashion.

I have learned to thoroughly embrace the woman that I am;  and I am LOATHE to refer to any bathing suit that I pour my curves into as a “fatkini”- a term that has been swirling around the web sphere since the temperatures began to soar.  Instead, I am a curvy bombshell and that is how I preferred to be addressed. So if you happen to see me sauntering down Ocean Drive, holler at me- I will be the one sashaying my hips with a smile on my face channeling my inner bombshell.

BTW- here are a few items that I will be taking with me on my trip:

Asos oversized cat eyes

Tory Burch flip flops

Asos straw fedora

Esther Williams Swimwear

MonifC Convertible

Maryland Fashion Awards- Re-cap

The Maryland Fashion Awards took place this weekend and this was the first time the fashion community took time to honor some of the people making an impact in the world of fashion in the DMV area.   With categories ranging from stylist, to emerging boutique I had the distinct pleasure of being nominated in the emerging media category for my work on the Ghetto Fashionista.  Though I did not take the award home I was truly flattered by simply being a nominee.

The theme of the awards was to INSPIRE and BE INSPIRED and I can honestly say I was inspired by the attempt to place Maryland and some of its talented and passionate people on the fashion map.

Curvy Fashionistas Host NYC Shop and Swap 5/1

Some of the websphere’s most fashionable (and popular) curvy bloggers will be hosting a swap and shop for curvy fashionistas ranging from sizes 10 and up.

The Shop & Swap was created by curvy style blogger Kellie Brown- and will be hosted by fellow curvy stylistas Gabi Gregg, Nicolette Mason, Nadia Aboulhosn and one of my personal favorites Ty Alexander, EIC of Each of these fashionistas has a unique, aspirational sense of style and break the mold of the misconception that fashion is limited to a size 0.

Here’s a pic of Ty Alexander, of Gorgeous in Grey in one of her always well-styled ensembles and a link to the post where she speaks about the event.

Christian Louboutin- Your Fairy Shoe Prince

Christian Louboutin the ubiquitous shoe designer who’s shoes and their equally popular red bottoms have become so iconic they have an almost cult-like following just announced a new partnership with Disney.

Every grown woman who has ever wanted to have her princess fantasy fulfilled can via Louboutin who is ready and willing to step up as your fairy shoe prince.   The shoe designer announced plans to  release a Cinderella shoe this summer as a result of this new partnership.

I wonder if this means our glass slippers will have red bottoms?  I guess we will have to wait until summer to find out.
