This year for Fashions Night Out (FNO) the folks over at Beautiful Textures hosted a soiree in honor of girls with kinks, coils and curls. The event aptly titled “curl couture” was an evening filled with beauty, bites and great fun for all that attended. Clearly this was one of the hottest tickets for FNO as evidenced by the bevy of natural-haired beauties who formed a line that stretched nearly a full block in front of the uber-chic Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea. Two of my favorite beauty bloggers- Afrobella and Tia Williams along with Teyanna Taylor were hosts for the evening.

New York Fashion Week kicks off this week and there are tons of events, designer presentations and of course one of my favorite NYFW events- Fashions Night Out! This year marks the fourth anniversary of the shopping event which has grown significantly with celebrity appearances , discounted shopping and new product launches occurring nationwide. One of my favorite guilty shopping pleasures QVC will participate in Fashion Night Out by premiering the launch of designer Isaac Mizrahi’s new fragrance- Fabulous. Tune in on Thursday, September 6th from 9pm- midnight for the unveiling of the fragrance, which combines the notes of citrus, musk and peony.
I can scarcely believe that Project Runway is in it’s tenth season – and as we approach the anniversary of this very fashionable reality series, the show has announced an exclusive partnership with retail giant Lord and Taylor. This season, the retailer will sponsor highly curated items including, accessories, shoes and handbags that the contestants will have at their disposal to complete their looks.
The integrated marketing component of this sponsorship will include exclusive behind the scenes footage of episodes ( to be aired on www.lordandtaylor.com), as well as a challenge taking place on August 30th where the winner will receive the coveted honor of having their designs sold at the Fifth Avenue flagship.
Finally, the retailer will once against host an elaborate Fashion’s Night Out celebration where previous Project Runway contestants will make appearances.
I will definitely be tuned in- will you?
I am fortunate enough to live a commutable distance to NYC so I tend to “do” fashion week in two parts- The first half usually involves the ultimate fashionistas shopping experience – Fashions Night out and for this season, I also had an opportunity to meet some of the most amazing fashion and beauty bloggers during the Independent Fashion Blogger’s Conference. The conference focused on really taking a critical look at the business of blogging, the role of social media and my favorite panel hands down was an open forum with Elle Magazine’s Creative Director- Mr. Joe Zee.

Fashion’s Night Out
Fashion’s Night Out is so amazing; however there are so many activities around the city that you definitely need to be strategic around what events to participate in. When I saw that Solange Knowles was going to be hitting the wheels of steel at Lord and Taylor, they quickly jumped to the top of my list of places to hit for the evening.
The second half of my fashion week experience will come later this week when I have an opportunity to check out some emerging designers as well as the Arise Magazine’s presentation which highlights designers from Africa. Check back later this week for my coverage from those collections.
Fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders are all working themselves into a frenzy as they prepare to descend on New York City for the largest media event the city hosts- New York Fashion Week. Most of the shows begin on September 8th which also marks the biggest and arguably the best Fashion Night out event. Fashionistas will storm the city being plucked, made over, pampered, dined and of course there’s the shopping. Not able to make it to the Big Apple to partake in the festivities? Don’t worry- just about every major city is hosting their own Fashion’s night out… check the full list of events http://www.fashionsnightout.com/fno/outside-nyc
You can also have the opportunity to view not only several of the digital (online) collections of your favorite designers- but also take a peek at what’s going on backstage before the shows. Maybelline has teamed up with YouTube to bring you LiveRunway…. the Runway channel at www.youtube.com/liverunway. Beginning September 1st- you can log on to see behind the scenes of NYFW and the live shows will begin on September 8th. Share your passion for fashion by using the hashtag #Liverunway in social media to join the conversation with other fashionistas/os!
