Backstage with CND At The Blonds 2014

CND was the exclusive nail designer for the Blonds Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The designing duo Phillipe and David Blond chose a theme of “good girl gone bad” for this seasons collection and they used comic book villains including Cat Woman, Poison Ivy and the Joker as inspiration for the runway looks.

CND created 23 unique designs for the Blonds and the creative team pulled from their modern folklore trend as a foundation for the looks. The nails are nothing short of amazing and CND co-founder, Jan Arnold describe the looks best “We don’t paint nails backstage at Fashion Week- we transform them into mini-masterpieces”.
The nails reflect the pointy, “stiletto” nail look that continues to be on trend both on and off the runway and the team used dramatic elements including swarvorski crystal, vintage jewelry, chains and even leather to craft the looks.

Backstage At Tracy Reese Fall 2014 With Ouidad

Street style has long since been recognized as inspiration for designer collections and this September the fashionistas and fashionistos upped the ante with some serious swoon-worthy style. I sent my photog out to capture some New York Fashion Week street style in front of the Lincoln Center.

Cocktails and Couture New York Fashion Week Recap

This year Cocktail & Couture tried something a bit different, bringing a Personal Branding & Social Media panel into the mix to talk to up-and-coming bloggers on how to build their brand. Though I was anticipating the “turn up” I found myself learning some valuable information so heres the breakdown of the C&C branding portion.

5 Things I Learned:
Stay true to yourself: Being somebody else is doing a disservice to yourself and stops people from getting to know the real you
If your interested in working with a brand introduce yourself, cover them on your blog, and build a relationship
Be smart on social media
Own what makes you unique because brands are always looking for the next unique voice
Learn to say “no” if a project doesn’t represent your brand then don’t be afraid to pass it up. Only do things that you want to reflect your voice.

NYFW Recap- Frank And Oak

Founded by childhood friends Ethan and Hichman Frank and Oak is a Montreal-based menswear line dedicated to producing high quality items at an affordable price point. Their Spring collection contained elements of preppy, school boy chic- featuring colored slim fitting chords and blazers with skinny ties; the entire collection includes timeless and classic lines.

Fro Fashion Week Makes NYC Debut

For many, gaining entry into New York Fashion week is a huge mystery. As a result of this elusiveness, many alternatives to Fashion Week have sprouted up- Full Figured Fashion Week pays homage to the curvy fashionista with style and right across the bridge in Brooklyn ‘Fro Fashion Week made its NYC debut . The creator of Fro Fashion week- Tarin Boone developed the concept in order to celebrate the naturalista who essentially embraces her natural hair all while being impeccably turned out in the newest, latest, hottest.
The weekend boasted a series of seminars, pop-up shops and the marquee event was a fashion show which featured emerging designers.

Of course over the course of the week I will spend some time “at the tents” and look forward to the experience of having a first-hand look at the latest trends, snapping some real style and squealing with delight when I finally meet a blogger who’s style I’ve admired on Instagram. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my time across the bridge at Fro Fashion Week with some of my natural tressed sisters delighting in the fact that I had an opportunity to attend a show where my unique beauty was reflected on the runway.

Backstage at Harlem’s Fashion Row With Dark And Lovely

Dark and Lovely served as the exclusive backstage hair sponsor of Harlem’s Fashion Row- an organization dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging African-American designers. Celebrity hair stylist Keith Campbell crafted looks that were futuristic and ran the gamut from highly textured tresses to sleek ponytails.

I had a chance to chat with Mezei Jefferson, Softsheen-Carson Director of education about the companies foray into natural hair care and he indicated “we want women to stay in the dark and lovely family-They were pioneers in the relaxer so they decided to keep up with the trend of natural hair”.

To create the looks:

For the highly teased and textured hair Au Naturale Coil Moisturizing soufflé (SRP 9.99) was used- two- strand twists can be created to add greater volume and definition; untwist and spray Natural Shine Sealing Nectar (SRP 9.99)to provide moisture and sheen.

For sleek ponytails:
Apply Let’s Jam Custard and brush hair into a high ponytail. Complete the look by braiding hair into a single ponytail.

Kena Marvel served as key make up artist for the show and the runway looks were inspired by the samurai, futuristic chic and African tribal influences.

Backstage at Lisa Perry A/W 2013

Lisa Perry presented her autumn/ winter 2013 collection as NY fashion week kicks off today. Revlon Global Artistic director, Gucci Westman partnered with the designer to create retro chic makeup looks which offered a definite nod to the mod look made popular in the 60′s.

Deep purples and cool blues were used for liner instead of black and a vibrant blue shadow was added to the look to create additional drama. The rest of the face was kept natural.

New York Fashion Week Mathieu Mirano Recap

Mathieu Mirano’s Spring 2013 collection hit multiple ends of the spectrum of fashion from ready to wear to editorial. A navy chevron hem coat, navy leather shirt and Mikado trouser with calfskin embossed heels could have walked right out from tents and would have been attacked by street style photographers.

 

Great separates that came in a variety of material and a range of colors from an orange pleated leather jacket to red knit dress in red were wearable pieces that made attendees want to commence spring shopping now. The white sequined cape with multi-rainbow yoke featured in the collection was perfect for a W Magazine editorial and a green chiffon beetle gown that needs a red carpet moment.

 

 

 

 

New York Fashion Week- Dennis Basso

Dennis Basso paired with Pour La Victorie shoes who’s amazingly crafted designs are equal parts elegant and chic. The presentation was a combination of old world glamour meets Paris socialite as the gowns were reminiscent of times gone by and  meant to conjure up images of a evening out in Deauville, France in the 60’s.  This spring, the topknot is going to be making its rounds again, but with a more polished coiffed look than the haphazard “sock bun” that has been pervasive this season. The beautiful gowns paired with faux fur stoles remind me of the old school style in my grandmother’s closet.   The Pour La Victorie shoes featured in the presentation will be available for a limited time contact 1-855-PourLAV for details.
