AJ Crimson served as the makeup sponsor to several shows this season and I was able to get a sneak peek of his new dual foundation which debuted during fashion week.
Dual Skin Cream Foundation

Dual Skin Cream Foundation

The foundation is buildable and offers sheer to full coverage. Crimson indicted that he created the colors for the dual foundation from dark to light so there is definitely something in the wide range of hues for brown girls. I had a chance to catch up with the makeup guru backstage at Harbison where I swatched his new banana cream which is perfect for creating highlight and contour. The biggest plus of the banana cream is that it goes on wet versus the powdery finish of other brands that can sometimes leave you looking ghostly.

The other exciting update from Crimson is that his foundation will be offered in a pro-palette which is a perfect addition to makeup artists kits.

The look backstage for Harbison was clean, natural lines with a pop of color on the lid. The goal essentially was to enhance the natural beauty versus an overly dramatic look.

Halo braids

Halo braids

Design Essentials served as the official hair sponsor for Harlem Fashion Row. Keith Campbell returned as Lead stylist for the show and he created looks from highly textured, voluminous pompadours to halo braids and textured Afros.

Though each designer had individual styles that served as the hair inspiration for their respective collections Design Essentials provided products from both their natural line and the professional salon range.

The pompadour created for Byron Lars was a huge favorite both backstage and among the fashionistas attending the show.

NYFW-Backstage At Victor dE Souza with Mizani

Backstage at Victor dE Souza

Master Mizani Stylist Ceaser Ramirez was tapped to create looks for the Victor dE Souza Spring 2015 Collection and the textured hair was very reminiscent of 80s disco chic. The arctic- icy blonde tresses were the perfect exclamation to accentuate the beautifully cut satins and silks in the collection.

“I wanted to design a dimensional style in this icy, arctic shade for a dramatic look,” says Ramirez. “Using MIZANI products to create the bold, textured style was a perfect match, as the brand has always been a leader in the professional textured market. I loved having the opportunity to work with Victor because he brings drama and his pieces are incredibly theatrical, so it really inspires my creativity.”

Ramirez used the following Mizani products in order to create what he describes as an “A-line bob”:

First the entire head was coated with
Mizani Iron Curl Heat Styling cream and the hair was braided all over in a figure 8 pattern; once the pins were secure, the hair was sealed with the humidity resistant mist and touched briefly with a flat iron.

Finally the hair was taken down and teased to create textured voluminous bob.

Backstage with CND At The Blonds 2014

CND was the exclusive nail designer for the Blonds Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The designing duo Phillipe and David Blond chose a theme of “good girl gone bad” for this seasons collection and they used comic book villains including Cat Woman, Poison Ivy and the Joker as inspiration for the runway looks.

CND created 23 unique designs for the Blonds and the creative team pulled from their modern folklore trend as a foundation for the looks. The nails are nothing short of amazing and CND co-founder, Jan Arnold describe the looks best “We don’t paint nails backstage at Fashion Week- we transform them into mini-masterpieces”.
The nails reflect the pointy, “stiletto” nail look that continues to be on trend both on and off the runway and the team used dramatic elements including swarvorski crystal, vintage jewelry, chains and even leather to craft the looks.

Cocktails and Couture New York Fashion Week Recap

This year Cocktail & Couture tried something a bit different, bringing a Personal Branding & Social Media panel into the mix to talk to up-and-coming bloggers on how to build their brand. Though I was anticipating the “turn up” I found myself learning some valuable information so heres the breakdown of the C&C branding portion.
The Panelist: Claire Sulmers – Freelance Fashion Writer and Creator/Editor of FashionBombDaily.com, Jennifer Walsh – Beauty Executive / Founder: The Beauty Bar, Behind The Brand Media, Jessica Goon – Senior Manager, Public Relations & Social Media, Avon & mark,Tracylee – Celebrity Manicurist and Sally Hansen Nail Ambassador, JasFly – Writer/Multimedia Personality, Charlene Dance - Global Marketing Director of Strength of Nature
5 Things I Learned:
Stay true to yourself: Being somebody else is doing a disservice to yourself and stops people from getting to know the real you
If your interested in working with a brand introduce yourself, cover them on your blog, and build a relationship
Be smart on social media
Own what makes you unique because brands are always looking for the next unique voice
Learn to say “no” if a project doesn’t represent your brand then don’t be afraid to pass it up. Only do things that you want to reflect your voice.

Fro Fashion Week Makes NYC Debut

For many, gaining entry into New York Fashion week is a huge mystery. As a result of this elusiveness, many alternatives to Fashion Week have sprouted up- Full Figured Fashion Week pays homage to the curvy fashionista with style and right across the bridge in Brooklyn ‘Fro Fashion Week made its NYC debut . The creator of Fro Fashion week- Tarin Boone developed the concept in order to celebrate the naturalista who essentially embraces her natural hair all while being impeccably turned out in the newest, latest, hottest.
The weekend boasted a series of seminars, pop-up shops and the marquee event was a fashion show which featured emerging designers.

Of course over the course of the week I will spend some time “at the tents” and look forward to the experience of having a first-hand look at the latest trends, snapping some real style and squealing with delight when I finally meet a blogger who’s style I’ve admired on Instagram. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my time across the bridge at Fro Fashion Week with some of my natural tressed sisters delighting in the fact that I had an opportunity to attend a show where my unique beauty was reflected on the runway.

NYFW- Maatano A/W 2013 Food and Fashion!

_DSC0052

_DSC0071

Let’s skip this winter and fast forward straight to fall which is going to be amazingly dark,  laid back  and regal all at the same time. With tons of texture, gold and prints that keep you mesmerized Mataano served fall on a platter that made you want to devour each piece. The collection channeled Janet Jackson circa 1997 patent leather, cheetah print and it was rich with color.

Speaking of platter as part of the festivities Chef Roble was the master of eats serving a plethora of appetizers that made me want to slap your mother. Chicken, portobello mushroom , succulent steak, mixed greens and tortellini rounded out the menu.

Come fall, I can see I will  need some leather of all types in my wardrobe, and what about that makeup winged liner and those vamp lips ladies get ready for the fall it’s going to be dark and lovely.
