Taraji P.Henson Rocks Bedroom-Sexy Hair

My favorite fellow Howard U alum Taraji P. Henson sported bedroom-sexy hair on the red carpet for yesterday’s Los Angeles premiere of Think Like A Man Too. Celeb stylist Ursula Stephens used a range of Motions (official US sponsor of the film) products to achieve Hensons’ look.

Products Used:
Motions Straight Finish Cleanser
Motions Straight Finish Leave-In Conditioner
Motions Straight Finish Sealer
Motions Light Hold Working Spritz

First cleanse with Finishing Cleanser, then condition the hair with Motions Straight Finish Cleanser- after drying seal the cuticles with finish sealer and then create the voluminous curls with a 2 inch barrel curling iron- in order to maintain your curl finish the look with Motions Light Hold Working Spritz.

I for one cannot wait to see the sequel which will hit theaters on June 20th.

Selfies, Pizza and Stars- Oscars Recap

Although the red carpet is typically the highlight of any awards, I dare say that Ellen Degeneres really stole the show in her role as host last night. Her comedic timing is always perfect but on oscar night it was even more so; between record breaking impromptu selfies, to making good on her promise to order pizza Ellen remained entertaining during a show that can sometimes be a snooze fest. She was funny, incredibly well dressed and was the primary reason I stayed tuned in- besides waiting to see Lupita win!!!!

Here are my top 8 moments from last nights Oscars:

8. Fashion moments I loved Pharrells trendsetting boldness opting to wear a Lanvin tuxedo that included shorts. Pharrell continues to make controversial fashion choices that keep us talking.

7. Best dressed– I also LOVED Charlize Theron in Dior, Kate Hudson in Versace and Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka

6. Speaking of Pharrell his performance of his academy nominated song “Happy” was another highlight. The choreography was on point and who can resist dancing along to such an infectious song? Plus he made his way to the audience and had several nominees dancing right along with him.

5. Judy Garland Tribute– Pink is usually incredibly edgy and prone to acrobatics during her performances; however I loved seeing her all dressed up delivering a powerful rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow

4.Pizza! In the middle of the formality of the academy awards Ellen Degeneres polls the audience on how hungry they are and then proceeds to have pizza delivered. Apparently it was gluten free.

3.Matthew McConaughey’ acceptance speech- I have admittedly not seen Dallas Buyers club but after his acceptance speech for wining for his lead actor role in the movie I’m definitely going to check it out. He was the only winner to thank God for his win-
“There’s a few things, about three things to my account that I need each day. One of them is something to look up to, another is something to look forward to, and another is someone to chase. Now, first off, I want to thank God. ‘Cause that’s who I look up to. “He has graced my life with opportunities that I know are not of my hand or any other human hand.”

2.Selfies! Ellen did an amazing job of infusing her authentic self into every moment as host. When she broke out her phone to take a selfie with several of the nominees she broke records for having the subsequent tweeted picture be retweeted over 2 million times.

1. Lupita Nyong’o wins! Lupita looked like a princess last night in her custom Prada and she served as inspiration to black girls everywhere-” may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”

Cheers! Sterling Wines The Official Libation of The Oscars

2011 Sterling Carneros Pinot, bottle shot

The Oscars is what I always love to refer to as the Olympics of Red Carpets and this Sunday the 86th Academy Awards will take place at the Kodak Theater.    The competition for the golden statues is fierce this year with very deserving nominees in every category.

One of the biggest trends for entertainment buffs and fashionistas alike is bringing the red carpet experience home by way of hosting Oscar viewing parties.   As you are prepping to host your soiree why not add a little of the glamour of the Oscars to your party? Sterling Vineyards is the official wine of the red carpet and you can toast your favorite nominee and determine who was best dressed with a little Sterling Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc  or 2010 Napa Valley Sauvignon Cabernet .

Having wine as an accompaniment to your Oscar bites takes the hassle out of coming up with a signature drink and by including both a red and a white option you can satisfy the tastes of most of your guests!   I am a certified wineaux and when I tell you my initial reaction to the Sauvignon Blanc- was quite simply wow.  I am an equal opportunity wine drinker and will grab a red or white depending on my mood.  The Sauvignon Blanc is floral with a bit of citrus and is the perfect white wine to appease even the biggest wine snob.

Curvy on the Carpet- Oscars Recap

The Oscars took place last night  and with the exception of a few highlights the show was a huge bore; In fact, I actually fell asleep in spite of my attempts to stay awake in order to see Adele perform what I now know is her Oscar winning song Skyfall.

Much will be written about how amazing Charlize Theron looked in Dior ( my best-dressed for the evening) or how Halle simply slayed in custom Versace- however, I wanted to show some love to the curvy girls who graced the red carpet last night.

If you have not figured it out by now, I’m a curvy girl who is constantly learning to embrace the figure God blessed me with- I applaud women in Hollywood who quite frankly are “average” sized but definitively find themselves in the  plus- sized category based on Hollywood ‘s standards. Here’s my Oscar rundown:

Octavia Spencer remained loyal to Tadashi Shoji in a nude-peach chiffon gown by the designer. I was not a fan of her look at all and after the actress recently  lost 20 pounds, I would have been happy to see her in something that highlighted her newly slimmed down figure; instead she wound up looking quite matronly in a dress that would have been perfect for the mother of the bride.

Melissa McCarthy
Let me start by saying I love this woman- she has pitch-perfect comedic timing and is currently starring in one of the top box office hits-Identity Theft. Unfortunately she entrusted her red carpet look to someone who simply has no clue how to dress a fuller figured woman. Everything about last nights look was wrong- from the ill-fitting gown to hair that reminded me of the old school cast of Dallas.85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Queen Latifah
I only happened to  catch a glimpse of Lah on the carpet but let me tell you, she always looks amazing- she was resplendent in Bagdley Mischka and everything from her elegant pony tail to her flawless make up was completely swoon-worthy.

Adele is my new girl crush and she was hands down my favorite on the red carpet last night- although I would have loved to have seen her in something other than her staple black she looked incredibly gorgeous in Jenny Packham. Part of the reason I loved her look is because she chose something that accentuated her assets and minimized any flaws.

Alicia Keys Billboard Music Awards- Red Carpet Breakdown

Alicia Keys Billboard Music Awards

Jennifer Fisher Hand Chains

I will wholeheartedly admit that I had no clue the Billboard Music Awards aired last night. I was busy spending some much needed quality time with my husband in the form of checking out the AMAZING production Fela. However, unless you live under a rock, the web-sphere  was on fire with tweets about the performances, the red carpet looks, and the good the bad and the not so pretty.

Alicia Keys performance caused a firestorm of loyal fans questioning what may have had her slightly off her game last night- I didn’t see the performance, so I cannot comment, but what I do know is that MS. Keys hit a high note with her ensemble! I loved her hair, the gorgeous red lippie and of course THAT dress and  THOSE accessories.

Here’s a run down on what she wore:

Dress: Azzedine Alaia Couture,

Accessories: Hand chains (on both hands) by Jennifer Fisher Jewelry, Azzedine Alaia CoutureRepossi earrings

Shoes: Brian Atwood

62nd Emmy’s Red Carpet Remix

The Nokia Theater played host to the 62nd Prime Time Emmy awards and of course for most with a thriving passion for fashion the red carpet pre-show is always the highlight. How much did we LOVE last night’s Emmy awards though? Jimmy Fallon was an amazing host and I was in stitches the entire night. From the “Glee” inspired intro to Fallon’s amazing sketch comedy I truly enjoyed the show.

On Trend
Navy was a trending color for the evening and was a very welcome change from basic black which can be both boring and predictable. The other big trend was the color white with Grecian inspired influence- Kim Kardashian wore this look flawlessly.

Admittedly many celebs and their stylists took great care when selecting last night’s red carpet drag- there were many red carpet hits for me, however these ladies stand out as my absolute favorites:

Kim Kardashian in Marchesa- she was polished, sexy and definitely channeled her inner Grecian Goddess

Clair Danes- everything about her Armani Prive struck a pitch perfect chord

Lea Michele this child is gorgeous to me and she selected a navy Oscar de la Renta gown for last night’s red carpet

There is no further commentary necessary as these red-carpet misses speak loud and clear

January Jones
Keri Russell

Curvy Girl Swag

Both Amber Riley and Christina Hendricks got it right when it came to the red carpet looks. Both of these ladies selected curve-enhancing gowns that celebrated versus covering up their curvy fabulousness

MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet Remix

by Lisa

I admittedly did not tune into the MTV Movie awards- I figured all of the highlights would be on YouTube and the red carpet was the only thing I was truly interested in- so why bother?
As I peruse the photos from last night’s awards “Come as you are” must have been the recurring theme. Many of the starlets looked like they stepped out without the assistance of a trained stylist eye, and the greatest accessory? Awesome gams as many folks opted to skirts way up to here.

Standouts for me included:

Katerina Graham- with her whimsical accessory choices, and her orange pout she looked AMAZING.

Katy Perry- sure she was channeling her inner Wonder woman with that blue wig, but hey she looked like a haute couture super hero, and what can I say- I LOVED it!

Christina Aguilera- although X-tina (her moniker tattooed on the back of her neck) caught a lot of flak for ‘trying’ to be Lady Gaga, I thought her black gown was a little rock and roll, and old world glamour all rolled into one.

For the men- I LOVED TI’s ensemble- there is nothing better than a well-dressed man, and with his bright- hues combined with white shoes I thought he represented the ultimate in hip-hop chic.

Who was your favorite?
Scarlett Johnasson
Audrina Partridge
Amber Lacaster
Sean Combs, Tyrese Gibson

That’s Gay- Award Shows Are Gay ( Hilarious!)

I literally just professed that I need a new gay boyfriend… if you have to wonder why, just take a look at this video from Current which does a thorough breakdown of the Oscars red carpet. A gay man is a fashionista’s best friend.

Golden Globes- The Best Fashion Show on TV

I declare the Golden Globes offers the absolute best red carpet eye-candy and last night’s show was no exception- especially after last year’s ‘press only’ event. I was particularly excited about Slum Dog Millionaire’s win because I LOVED the movie, and the stars of the film were so humble they were an absolute delight to watch. Binged out chokers, messy hair, and neutral gowns seemed to be de rigueur for celebs. Now on to the eye candyBlingEva Mendes wore my favorite choker of the eveningChristina Applegate BeyonceElizabeth BanksNeutral GownsSandra BullockSalma HayekDemi Moore Angelina Jolie America Ferrara Do you need a comb? BET Awards 2008

The BET Awards took place last night, and trust me if you missed the original airing, BET is going to provide you with plenty of opportunities to catch the show.I actually missed quite a bit of the performances, particularly the Alicia Key’s ode to girl groups of the 90s including SWV, TLC and En Vogue. So I will definitely need to check that out. I also realize just how ‘ahem’ mature I’m getting when the performances of the “Lifetime Achievers” in this case Al Greene are more exciting for me than some of the newest, latest, hottest artist. Also, though Rhianna is one of my absolute favorite fashionistas, and there is no doubt that she is talented, girlfriend has ZERO stage presence. Summer Sunshine yellow seemed to be one of the most popular choices for many of the ladies of the red carpet and I absolutely loved Keiysha coles with her new raven-haired do! Check it outPhotos courtesy of Bet.com
