Lane Bryant Launches New Comprehensive Campaign

Many a fashionista is excited to visit their mailboxes eagerly anticipating the arrival of the coveted September issues of their favorite magazines.   With the September issues come new products, a focus on the latest trends and of course advertising and brands all vying for your attention.  I for one am a huge fan of Essence Magazine and I was pleasantly surprised to get a first hand glimpse of the comprehensive re-branding of one of my favorite curvy girl shopping destinations-Lane Bryant.  The premier plus sized retailer has been around for over 110 years and this fall marks the first overhaul of the companies advertising and branding since 2008.

The new campaign features a sleek logo and merges lifestyle and personal imagery with the fashion images captured by photographer Alexi Lubomirski. The tagline for the new campaign resonates “FASHION FOR EVERYDAY, STYLE JUST FOR YOU“.

Here’s a preview of the new Lane Bryant campaign.  I for one am LOVING the leopard!

Gottex Resort 2013 Miami Swim Recap

The SLS pool was the sexy backdrop to the Gottex collection a show I almost missed because of the rain that pounded Miami on day 4 of swim week- I braved the rain and subsequent flooding and after having a chance to see the collection I was certainly glad I did.  Elegant, colorful resort wear was di riguer in the collection and the turbans that were combined with brightly hued caftans added a distinct dash of edgy chicness to the collection.  Simply put, Gottex had incredibly beautiful lines and is sure to be a go to choice of fashionistas in the upcoming resort season.

Red Carter Resort 2013- Recap

This Swim Week, Miami’s Native Son- Red Carter returned to the catwalk to present his latest Resort 2013 collection. From the moment the first model sauntered down the runway carrying a disco-ball and rocking hair that was very much an ode to the iconic Vidal Sassoon bob, attendees were guaranteed to be in for a treat.  The collection combined disco influences with a distinct nod to the golden era of the infamous Studio 54 in NYC;  combining  glitz, glamour and a combination of animal prints and Aztec influences.

The final pieces were accompanied by models that were wearing feathers, which looked like a nod to Moulin Rouge or the beautiful girls who dress in pageantry for Caribbean Carnival festivals. Needless to say, Red Carter is making an indelible mark in the fashion industry with his modern touches and  heavy couture influences and I am certain his influence and reach will extend even further with his recent relocation to NYC.

Aqua di Lara- Swimwear Collection 2013

Aqua di Lara was hands down one of my favorite shows of Miami Swim.  Swarovski crystal embellishments, gorgeous printed caftans and a great mix of mono-kini’s, string bikinis and high waited suits rounded out the collection.    The cover-ups were so well designed that they could have easily made a transition from day to evening and the swimwear offered up a variety of looks that would compliment most body types.

Created by award-winning designer Reyhan Sofraci,  Aqua di Lara strives to create forms that accentuate the feminine form and the 2013 collection is equal parts glamour and high fashion.

You Might Be a Fashionista If… .

A few months ago, one of my best friends took a step back, looked me up and down and declared you DO know you have on pink stockings right?  What my friend was referring to was a day like many others when I simply couldn’t find what I was looking for and ended up making a “statement”.  You see it’s simple, it was cold on this particular day, and I needed to wear stockings and all I could find was my lipstick colored spanx.  I put them on and considered the look color blocking. Of course my friends query was because I had on absolutely NOTHING else pink; so I really am more like an accidental fashionista- sure I love fashion, but I like classics and my interpretation of trends is limited to small exclamation points versus full-on, head to toe trends.   So, I thought other people may find themselves in my shoes, accidental fashionistas, rocking trends and making statements simply because you were making DO….

YOU might be a fashionista if:

  1. You routinely mix that $3 dollar dress you found on sale from Target, K-Mart or Wal-Mart with designer shoes.   I promise you I have a Merona dress from Target that people always think is DVF.   Because I paid less than the taxes on a DVF dress for it, this clearly makes me clap my hands with delight. Style is not purchased, or dictated by labels it simply is something you have or you don’t and no amount of designer labels is going to make you stylish.
  2. You very rarely shop at the mail – people are surprised to find that I truly dislike going to the mall.   There is very little inspiration there  and I get little to no pleasure out of walking from store to store where the windows and the selection look mostly the same. I prefer boutiques or more often then not- shopping online.
  3. You thrift- I get the greatest sense of pleasure when I find something truly fabulous at a vintage or thrift shop.  Just about every winter coat I own is probably 30 years old purchased at a thrift shop.
  4. People mimic your style.  If people frequently ask you where you got something and then you see them a few days later loosely wearing something similar, you have provided inspiration.    Imitation is the greatest form of flattery so embrace it and keep walking to the beat of your own fashionable drum.
  5. You have the ability to shop your closet. I firmly believe the chicest of them all understand the importance of having certain basic items- the perfectly cut pair of jeans, the hautest little black dress you know what to buy so when the time comes you don’t find yourself in a frenzy trying to purchase something new- the perfect item, for any event is likely already in your closet.

I believe it bears repeating- style is NOT dictated by labels. So embrace the walk to the stylish beat of your own drum and revel in being a style maven!

Style Item of the Week- Asos Statement Necklace

If you cannot tell by now, I am a huge fan of Asos. In spite of all the time I spent coveting their pieces, I was a bit leery of ordering from them since after all, they are a UK-based company who just recently began delivering in the US.

After my initial hesitation I took the plunge and I have been an Asos loyalist ever since. When I came across this gorgeous statement necklace, I knew I had to have it and thought it not robbery to share with you!

This Rocco Articulated Statement Necklace retails for 27 bucks so why not treat yourself?

Baltimore Has Style Too

I have said it before and

I will say it again- I am a Baltimore Girl true and thru.  I have loved fashion since I requested my first handbag at the tender age of four and in spite of evidence to the contrary, I believe there are Baltimore women who have style and substance that can rival fashionistas in any major metropolitan city. I encounter beautiful, well-dressed women all the time and I want the rest of the fashion world to see Baltimore has style too.

I would like to feature women from my fair city rocking the newest, latest, hautest!

Email me at lisabrownhall@ghettofashionista.com showing off your Baltimore Style for a chance to be featured on my site.

Spring Trends 2012

Depending on where you are in the country, spring has officially sprung in spite of the calendar still declaring a foothold on winter.  Spring has always been a time of transition and this season the focus is on neon- bright colors, delicious florals and at the top of almost everyone’s must have list for Spring- colored jeans ranging from royal blue to soothing cool pastels.

Here ‘s some inspiration of my favorite trends for spring:

Colored jeans- I must admit I am totally obsessed with this trend. From warm coral to cool minty green colored jeans offer an affordable and stylish way to update your spring wardrobe.  Here are some of my favorites:

Peplum- this is a classic look that offers up the utmost in lady-like elegance.  With options ranging from peplum skirts, to jersey tops to jackets you can instantly add a dose  of feminine chic to your wardrobe.

Bright lights- I swear to you, there is nothing new under the sun and the neon trend made extremely popular during the mid 80’s has returned with a vengeance.

Kelly Green- Green is hands down one of my favorite colors and this spring, the color comes in shades ranging from money to the most verdant Kelly green.

Flower Garden- I must admit I have been slow to warm to the floral trend, but give me a gorgeous wedge with a bit of flowers to envelope my feet and I’m sold.     If you are unlike me and see yourself rocking floral from head-to-toe then this is the season for you to bloom!

What’s your favorite trend for the season?
