Dennis Basso paired with Pour La Victorie shoes who’s amazingly crafted designs are equal parts elegant and chic. The presentation was a combination of old world glamour meets Paris socialite as the gowns were reminiscent of times gone by and meant to conjure up images of a evening out in Deauville, France in the 60’s. This spring, the topknot is going to be making its rounds again, but with a more polished coiffed look than the haphazard “sock bun” that has been pervasive this season. The beautiful gowns paired with faux fur stoles remind me of the old school style in my grandmother’s closet. The Pour La Victorie shoes featured in the presentation will be available for a limited time contact 1-855-PourLAV for details.
Rafael Cennamo’s collection launched in 2006 and has since become synonymous with elegant couture. His Spring/Summer 2013 collection featured classic lines with a decidedly modern twist. With delicate pastels, the gowns boasted amazing beading detail with everything from red carpet worthy silver sequins to the most gorgeous voluminous gown, cinched at the waist with a silver belt. If you are a stylists looking to outfit clients in red-carpet wear sure to land them firmly on the best-dressed list, look no further than Cennamo for the upcoming award season.
I will willingly admit Sears has not been on my radar since I was a teen and my mother took me there to buy my first bra, likely during a trip when we were buying a new vacuum cleaner or some equally practical household item. Needless to say I was curious to see what Sears had to offer so when the invite arrived to the Sears Style event, I gladly accepted and prepared to satisfy my curiosity. The Bagatelle restaurant in the meatpacking district played host to some of my favorite fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers and let me just say, if you have not visited the restaurant for brunch- go.now. They served truffle infused eggs that still have me dancing in my seat days later. The brunch offered attendees the opportunity to get up close and personal with the brand and this was my first time having a chance to preview the Kardashian Kollection. I loved everything about the Sears Style experience from the denim bar to the gorgeous lines of the Kardashian Kollection to the modern twists in some of the 50-year-old brands like Covington, Sears is definitely on my radar again.
Please visit Sears to shop the Kardashian Kollection.
Harlem’s Fashion Row kicked off day one of NY Fashion Week by hosting a blogger brunch in conjunction with Dark and Lovely. The brunch included a panel discussion featuring hair stylist Keith Campbell, model Sessilee Lopez and designer Samantha Black and was moderated by Essence Magazine’s own Corynne Corbett. The theme was “Living the fashionable dream” and the panelists offered a surprisingly intimate glimpse into their lives as they chatted about their key wins and the challenges they have encountered on their respective fashionable journeys.
Samantha Black spoke with great passion about her design career and gave pretty sound advice to up and a coming designer that was simply “don’t do anything because it’s a trend”. Sessile Lopez was hilarious as she talked about her modeling career, her mentors- including Alek Wek and Naomi Campbell and her “crew” of fellow brown girl models who refer to themselves as “Chocolate Thunder”. I don’t think any of the bloggers in attendance were prepared for just how comedic Sessile is and it was refreshing to see the amazing personality behind the beautiful face. Attendees were then treated to a sneak peek of the Harlem’s Fashion Row designers who will present on September 7th and each piece was as beautiful as the next.

From thoughtful wardrobe selections to finding the perfect shoes that will offer equal parts form and function, there is a tremendous amount of preparation that goes into attending NYFW. Though I am excited about all of the events that surround the premier fashion event of the season, I am probably more excited about Fashion’s Night Out! I have made participating in NY’s Fashion Night an annual tradition that I participate in with some of my nearest and dearest friends and this year is no exception. Many a fashionista is excited to visit their mailboxes eagerly anticipating the arrival of the coveted September issues of their favorite magazines. With the September issues come new products, a focus on the latest trends and of course advertising and brands all vying for your attention. I for one am a huge fan of Essence Magazine and I was pleasantly surprised to get a first hand glimpse of the comprehensive re-branding of one of my favorite curvy girl shopping destinations-Lane Bryant. The premier plus sized retailer has been around for over 110 years and this fall marks the first overhaul of the companies advertising and branding since 2008.
The new campaign features a sleek logo and merges lifestyle and personal imagery with the fashion images captured by photographer Alexi Lubomirski. The tagline for the new campaign resonates “FASHION FOR EVERYDAY, STYLE JUST FOR YOU“.
Here’s a preview of the new Lane Bryant campaign. I for one am LOVING the leopard!

The SLS pool was the sexy backdrop to the Gottex collection a show I almost missed because of the rain that pounded Miami on day 4 of swim week- I braved the rain and subsequent flooding and after having a chance to see the collection I was certainly glad I did. Elegant, colorful resort wear was di riguer in the collection and the turbans that were combined with brightly hued caftans added a distinct dash of edgy chicness to the collection. Simply put, Gottex had incredibly beautiful lines and is sure to be a go to choice of fashionistas in the upcoming resort season.

This Swim Week, Miami’s Native Son- Red Carter returned to the catwalk to present his latest Resort 2013 collection. From the moment the first model sauntered down the runway carrying a disco-ball and rocking hair that was very much an ode to the iconic Vidal Sassoon bob, attendees were guaranteed to be in for a treat. The collection combined disco influences with a distinct nod to the golden era of the infamous Studio 54 in NYC; combining glitz, glamour and a combination of animal prints and Aztec influences.
The final pieces were accompanied by models that were wearing feathers, which looked like a nod to Moulin Rouge or the beautiful girls who dress in pageantry for Caribbean Carnival festivals. Needless to say, Red Carter is making an indelible mark in the fashion industry with his modern touches and heavy couture influences and I am certain his influence and reach will extend even further with his recent relocation to NYC.
