I was recently making my beltway commute home, and came across a bumper sticker that read- January 20, 2009- the end of an ‘error’… I found myself laughing out loud because the sticker clearly resonated with me. Well, President Barack Obama has only been in office a few short days, and I believe he is doing an amazing job. The new pres covers Vanity Fair (more proof of his rock star status) where he gives an overview of his first few days in office.
Fashionista’s everywhere have been waiting with bated breath to see what Michelle Obama would wear for the inaugural balls. Well the divine Mrs. O did not disappoint as she was resplendent in a one-shoulder, ivory gown designed by 26 year old Jason Wu. I have just one word for Michelle’s look last night- FABULOUS!
If Michelle Obama is the backbone to our new president- keeping him grounded by reminding him to pick up his socks, Malia and Sasha have to be the wind beneath his wings. These beautiful girls are so full of life, grace, and seem to have the manners that only come with good rearing. The Obama girls were absolutely gorgeous wearing coats especially designed for them by J. Crew.
The Today show reported this morning that once word got out that the coats were designed by J. Crew, the website crashed as fashionista moms attempted to purchase the inaugural coats.
The coats are not available yet, however they are sure to be a sell-out once they are in stock.

As many of my readers know the GF is a MD girl and you cannot imagine the level of excitement in the DC, MD and VA area around the inauguration.
DC is such a colorful city, filled with some of the most glamorous, and chic fashionistas around.
However, if you will be part of the upcoming Obama administration there will likely be a tendency to the more conservative.
Here’s a snapshot of DC style…
As you can imagine there are a ton of parties going on in and around Chocolate City.
I personally will be attending “History” a party hosted by the Mecca Alumni Group from Howard University.
Here are some other party options for those of you heading to DC.
In honor of celebrating CHANGE Carol’s Daughter will be opening its newest ‘pop-up’ shop at Pentagon City Mall.

Without question, our next president has swagger for days. Lord knows, every woman I know pauses to take notice just to watch this man walk. Did you see him when he went to visit the White House? Lawd have mercy!
Barack is already a style icon in my book, and I am looking forward to doing more features on men’s fashion as our dashing new president takes the white house by storm.
Though a tuxedo for the inauguration has already been selected- Hart Schaffner, designers could not resist coming up with some looks for Obama.

You already know I am a serious Michelle Obama stan. I seriously believe she is a friend in my head… and now I KNOW why. Michelle was born the day before me –January 17th ( several years earlier of course!) but there is definitely a bit of the GF in the next first lady. She is somewhat of an enigma- yet you know she is a loving mother and wife, she seems fiercely intelligent, and her wit is quick and tongue sharp.
I also love it the way she keeps it ‘real’. Girlfriend can rock Narcisco Rodriguez, and then turn around and head to the polls with her hair pulled back in a pony tail, with a baseball hat on. Yup, she’s most definitely a Ghetto Fashionista! In any case, if you are interested in a glimpse into THE woman behind THE man, then check out the newly released biography aptly titled Michelle: A Biography; I am definitely adding this to my reading list.
