Plus-size. Curvy. Thick. There are so many expressions that are used to categorize the woman who is size 12 plus and Marie Denee of The Curvy Fashionista is here to help the plus community navigate everything from the plus size brands you must know to creating a general sense that we all need to get in formation because we slay.

Marie recently hosted the first in a brunch series designed to engage the curvy community in dialogue . In addition to awesome vendors including my fan- girl brand of choice Jibri, there was a panel discussion where the focus was on “Own your beauty, own your style”. I loved each of the panelist which included Maui of Phat Girl fresh, Mimi Johnson, owner of the Glammatory and Patrick Cooper, Stylist who was by far my favorite; Offering up such gems as “You can inspire others just by walking in the room” or “It’s okay to experiment with your style but find what works for you”. Essentially the focus was on getting the women in attendance to understand how curvy women have a unique voice and yes, our curves are something to be honored not shunned.

Marie had a more existential approach to her feedback to the attendees- “If you are constantly delaying your happiness your delaying your growth” was one of the most poignant statements of the afternoon.

Next up in the Curvy Fashionista ‘s brunch series is a focus on the business behind building your personal brand. Panelist include Ty Alexander of Gorgeous In Grey, Chante of Everything Curvy and Chic just to name a few.

This event is sure to sell out so make sure you purchase your tickets asap.

Lane Bryant Launches New Comprehensive Campaign

Many a fashionista is excited to visit their mailboxes eagerly anticipating the arrival of the coveted September issues of their favorite magazines.   With the September issues come new products, a focus on the latest trends and of course advertising and brands all vying for your attention.  I for one am a huge fan of Essence Magazine and I was pleasantly surprised to get a first hand glimpse of the comprehensive re-branding of one of my favorite curvy girl shopping destinations-Lane Bryant.  The premier plus sized retailer has been around for over 110 years and this fall marks the first overhaul of the companies advertising and branding since 2008.

The new campaign features a sleek logo and merges lifestyle and personal imagery with the fashion images captured by photographer Alexi Lubomirski. The tagline for the new campaign resonates “FASHION FOR EVERYDAY, STYLE JUST FOR YOU“.

Here’s a preview of the new Lane Bryant campaign.  I for one am LOVING the leopard!

Voluptuous Vixen- Curvy Girl Shopping in The French Quarter

Travel and regional retail therapy go hand in hand for me. Whenever I venture to another area, I want to get a feel for trends, beauty and hair looks that seem to be prevalent in other parts of the country.  On a recent trip to New Orleans I kept hearing about a store called Voluptuous Vixen, needless to say the name alone had me thoroughly intrigued. I logged into my places app and found my way to the store.  Located in the Chartres Street shopping area, I was enamored by the boutique the moment I crossed the threshold of the store and Heather, the beautifully dressed sales person only enhanced my experience.

Voluptuous Vixen is the brain child of Jaclyn McCabe who opened the store a little over 4 years ago after becoming a frustrated consumer trying to find stylish items beyond a size 12.   The store carries sizes 12-28 in a wide range of designers we know and love including David Meister, Adrianna Papell and one of my hands down curvy girl favorites- Monif C and features both jewelry and a cosmetic line Magnolia crafted from Crescent City locals.   The only thing that trumps the clothing selection is the beautiful range of bras that start at a 36D- and extend to JJ.

The website is in the process of being upgraded and is set to launch with the option to make purchases later this month, however in the interim, you can visit their facebook page and call the store to make a purchase which they will happily ship to you.

Happy Shopping!
