Rebecca Minkoff just launched a new web series- Style Studio via Yahoo where she invites guests in need of an image overhaul into her studio for style advice on improving their overall profile.

Marni to Collaborate With H&M

Directly off the heels  of a wildly successful collaboration with Versace, H&M has announced the latest designer to bring high end fashion to the masses; Italian designer Marni will release a collection in spring. Marni for H&M will be available at 250 stores worldwide, as well as online beginning March 8th. I couldn’t be bothered to toss the covers off my head for the Versace collabo, but you can best believe I will be venturing out to get a piece of Marni.

Creative Director and Founder Consuelo Castiglioni says of the collection “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colors, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic and adding sporty utilitarian elements.”

Fascinators- the Royal Accessory

The Royal Wedding has catapulted the darling little hats known as fascinators into the fashion stratosphere. The hats are chic and add the perfect dose of British chic to any ensemble. Phillip Treacy has long since been recognized as the go-to designer of choice for the darling hats and many of his designs were prominently featured at the Kate/William nuptials.

Here he is with the fabulous Iman… do we love it?

DC Fashion Week- Recap

DC Fashion week was barely a blip on my radar but I decided to give it a try since after all the shows were practically in my own backyard. The week consisted of a combination of both runway shows and networking events and for me the networking was priceless.

I had an opportunity to connect with fellow fashionista’s/os in the DMV area that truly have a passion for fashion.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Emore Couture who’s personality positively lit up the room, a huge accomplishment with so many of DC’s finest tastemakers making their rounds at the shows and events. He was accompanied by runway coach extraordinaire Naki Carey.

In general, I had a great time and found myself incredibly impressed by Corjor international, Rudy Wolff  and Heydari collections respectively.

Here are some highlights from the week:

83rd Annual Oscars- Red Carpet Picks

The 83rd Oscar’s were handed out at the Kodak Theater last night and though the general consensus was the show could have replaced Ambien with its dull moments and lackluster hosts, the red carpet was definitely something to see.  Here are some of my favorite highlights:

I am seeing Red

The red carpet was complete with well, lots of red dresses. Sandra Bullock gets an A for her choice of a crimson Vera Wang gown.  Host Anne Hathaway and a newly slim and trim Jennifer Hudson also donned red for their red carpet walk.

Blinged out Beauty

Shimmering gowns were a big trend last night and both Hillary Swank and Gwyneth Paltrow get high marks for executing this look flawlessly.

In the Nude

Halle Berry was perfection in nude last night. I loved everything about her look and she gave a very heartfelt tribute to the late great Lena Horne who passed in 2010.

Michelle Williams looked amazing in Chanel and her platinum pixie cut was one of her best accessories.

Favorite Anne Hathway change

I loved her in the Lanvin tuxedo- she was chic, elegant and edgy all at the same time.

Last but certainly not least Natalie Portman was resplendent in Rodarte last night.   Hand down her two best accessories were her baby bump and Mr. Oscar as she took home the statue for her role in Black Swan.

A resume in 140 characters or less?- Marc Jacobs is HIRING!

With all of the frenzy surrounding Grammy related and fashion week tweets, there was a very subtle fashionable version of the “Apprentice” taking place in the twitterverse. Apparently Marc Jacobs is seeking someone to take over the helm of Marc Jacob’s International as Director of Social media- the catch? No resumes are required, in fact, the designer tweeted that he wanted to be entertained in 140 characters or less- that’s right- the ideal candidate simply need to have an in-depth knowledge of the brand and be able to relay their qualifications in a tweet. Apparently relocation will be provided and the position offers a ‘generous’ salary.

If you think you have what it takes to land the coveted job with the house that Marc built, simply tweet him @Marcjacobsintl… me and the rest of his 90,000 followers will be watching.

Good luck!

2011 Golden Globes- Red Carpet Recap

The play offs leading up to the super bowl may have been a highlight for many on Sunday evening however, the real showdown happened on the Golden Globes red carpet.

The biggest color trends for the evening were nude, emerald green and lots of black.

Best dressed
Olivia Wilde

The hands down Belle of the Ball was Olivia Wilde in a chocolate brown Marchesa gown which I would gladly walk down the aisle and say “I Do” in as it was just that fabulous.

Best Tressed
Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez gown screamed soccer mom in fact, I wonder if she arrived in a minivan as opposed to a limo, but in the midst of all of the messy hair that ruled the red carpet, Jenny from the block was absolutely flawless on the hair and make up front. She rocks a nude lip like nobody’s business and her sleek, honey-hued pony tail was a win.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock was another one of my favorites on the hair front and she was completely on trend with a blunt bang which is going to be huge for spring.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman’s best accessory was probably her baby bump, but I loved her take on the retro-chic French roll.

Red Carpet Redux- Angelina Jolie and Gywneth Paltrow

This week the Tourist starring Angelina Jolie and Country Strong starring Gwyneth Paltrow had premieres complete with all the red carpet fabulousness we have come to love from both celebs; Jolie and Paltrow literally exemplified the black and white of fashion each choosing very different looks.

Gwyneth donned a figure flattering white gown by Emilio Pucci with a plunging split that left very little to the imagination. Her Pilates or whatever it is the celeb has been doing to be able to pull off such a revealing dress has been doing wonders.

Jolie played dress up in ladylike Goth Versace during the Berlin premiere of her Golden Globe nominated The Tourist.

Though I admire Paltrow for her daring, I love the lady-like chicness of the built-in gloves of Jolie’s dress.

The Fashion Show Premieres Tonight

The first season of Bravo’s Fashion Show was on my radar, but I rarely tuned in and midway through the season literally forgot about the show. However the second installment of the show has true star power and features bona fide fashion icon Iman as one of the judges.

I have long since loved the Somalia beauty as she blazed trails in the fashion industry with her unique grace and beauty. In fact, the first poster I EVER purchased was not of some crooning teen heartthrob, no Iman graced my walls as a symbol of black beauty and fashion greatness. Harpers Bazaar’s Laura Brown and designer extraordinaire Isaac Mizrahi round out season two of The Fashion Show panel of judges.

Check out the complete bios of contestants and judges here

The Fashion Show premieres on Bravo at 10pm tonight
