Queen Latifah Launches Line for HSN

There is rarely anything that happens that qualifies as being ground breaking in curvy fashion. Surely there are a few great brands that curvy girls can turn to with confidence but many of us luxury-sized women wait with a lukewarm interest when “new” collections are released to address our needs.

Well, hopefully the tides are changing as one of my curvy icons- Queen Latifah has developed a collection for women ranging from size 2-24 in partnership with HSN. The range will be available on the shopping network on August 27th.

Queen Latifah is "Just Wright"

by Lisa

There are very few movies that the GF is excited to see… however “Just Wright” the new film featuring Queen Latifah, and the ever so yummy Common is high on my list of must see films. The movie premier went down at NYC famed Ziegfeld Theater last night and Queen Latifah was resplendent in one of my favorite trends this season, the 50’s inspired shirt dress.
Her MUA Monifa Mortis spills on what she used to make the Just Wright star look red-carpet amazing.

The inspiration for the look was Spring Chic, earth tones with a metallic finish. Queen had metallic themes in her outfit: gold jewelry, gold in her boots so we wanted to play up those colors.

For the eye I used a combination of gunmetal, green and charcoal colors. To get the look, try COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Citrus Flair using the green color on the base of the lid and blend up, layer COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Silver Sky over the green in the crease of the eye and blend up towards the brow bone. Add a gold highlighter along the lower lash line and up at the brow bone, try COVERGIRL Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire. To finish her eye, I used a few coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Length Mascara in black for glamorous long lashes.

For the face, I used COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Pressed Powder in Brown Bronze and added COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Brown Bronze under the eyes and in Ebony Bronze on her forehead and cheekbones to add a warm glow.

I finished the look with COVERGIRL ShineBlast Lip Gloss in Ember, which Queen took with her in her clutch for touchups throughout the night.

“Just Wright” opens in theaters nationwide on May 14th.

Queen Latifah redefines beauty

Dana Owens AKA Queen Latifah graces the cover of the latest issue of People magazine and she represents for curvy girls beautifully. Latifah is obviously comfortable in her voluptuous skin, and was recently quoted indicating that “Beauty is not just a white girl. It’s so many different flavors and shades.” Here’s some photos of the divine Queen, looking flawless with all her curvy girl swagger.

Wifey is one of the hip hop expressions that somehow manages to get under my skin. Perhaps it is the connotation that ‘wifey’ is the main chick, while there potentially could be other women on the side. However, the branding of this popular colloquialism could be changing thanks to Queen Latifah. The rap-star, turned actress will be serving as the executive producer for the show “Wifey” which will be aired on both BET and Vh1. The show will be a scripted drama about the women who make things happen in the hip hop industry. I am excited to see how this will play out and you KNOW Latifah is seriously getting her hustle on if the show will be aired on both networks owned by Viacom.

Stay tuned for more details!
